What To Do After You Get Bit By A Dog?

According to a survey conducted from 2001 to 2003, there are 4.5 million victims of a dog attack in the US. It also shows that dogs are the 4th deadliest creature worldwide. It is next to mosquitos, humans, and snakes. Most of the victims are children around 5 to 9 years old due to their curiosity and unfamiliarity with the dog’s behavior. These data depict the danger that a dog can do. Though we know that they are man’s best friends, we still couldn’t take away the fact that they could have unpredictable behaviors.

Aside from the wounds, bacteria and diseases like rabies could be transferred to our bodies through a dog bite. It is very dangerous when not treated immediately and could even cause death. Awareness and proper knowledge on what to do after you get bit by a dog are important after the time of the attack. You could save your life or even others by performing the following.

1. Clean The Wound Immediately

Wash the wound with mild soap. Within 5 to 10 minutes, rinse it with warm water. Do this immediately after the attack.

2. Stop The Bleeding As Possible

After cleaning the wound, try to stop the bleeding as much as possible. You can use a clean cloth to cover the wound with an ample amount of pressure to at least slowdown or possibly stop the bleeding.

3. Use Antibiotic Creams

If available, you can use an over-the-counter antibiotic cream for the wound. It could help in slowing down or preventing the spread of any bacteria and infections.
